FBH publication selected as Editor’s Pick in APL Photonics
The publication “GaAs-based photonic integrated circuit platform enabling monolithic ring-resonator-coupled lasers” by Jan-Philipp Koester et al. has been published in APL Photonics and selected as an Editor's Pick.
The platform presented in this paper supports both on-chip gain around 1064 nm as well as passive waveguides. In addition, shallow-etched and deep-etched waveguides have been realized. The former results in waveguide losses of 1.8 dB/cm, while the latter enables compact integrated waveguide devices. To demonstrate the performance of the platform, racetrack ring resonators based on deep-etched Euler waveguide bends and shallow-etched directional couplers are realized, achieving high intrinsic quality factors of 2.6 × 105 for the fundamental TE mode. To demonstrate the use of these resonators, monolithically integrated ring-resonator coupled lasers have been fabricated.
