The QPIS project led by Tim Schröder has won the Grand Challenge for Quantum Communication awarded by the BMBF

The “QPIS Quantum-Photonic Integrated Scalable Memory” project led by Tim Schröder, Head of the Joint Lab Diamond Nanophotonics (Coordinator, HU Berlin & FBH), Gregor Pieplow (HU Berlin), and Kai Müller (TU Munich) has won the Grand Challenge for Quantum Communication awarded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Efficient soil analysis – high-tech for sustainable agriculture

Precise information about agricultural soils is key to managing them more efficiently and sustainably. Researchers at the Leibniz institutes FBH and ATB have recently enhanced an existing sensor platform for mobile soil mapping of agricultural fields. By integrating an innovative Raman system, soil components can now be identified on a substance-specific level while the vehicle is on the move – in real time, on site, and with high spatial resolution. This method holds the potential to significantly reduce time and cost associated with conventional soil sampling. At the same time, it enables more targeted fertilization, contributing to more environmentally friendly farming practices.

Ferdinand-Braun-Institut presents laser novelties at Photonics West 2025

At Photonics West 2025 in San Francisco (USA), the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH) will be presenting novel and advanced diode lasers. FBH will be participating in both the trade fair (January 28-30, 2025) and the accompanying conferences (January 25-30, 2025) with 18 scientific talks. At stand 4205-18 in the German Pavilion, the institute will be showcasing its full range of capabilities – from design and chip development to modules and prototypes.
